Wind turbine wake control strategies: A review and concept proposal

A wind farm’s overall power production is significantly less than its nominal power, defined as the sum of turbines’ rated outputs. The primary cause for this significant loss exposure downstream turbines to aerodynamic wake their upstream counterparts. Wind farm layout optimization aims at minimizing such adverse effects by finding optimal turbine positions that are exposed wake. Over past few years, researchers have extended fight against beyond optimization, i.e., design process, onto control and operation process. Several active strategies been proposed studied decrease steering or weakening wakes. First, article reviews these strategies, including yaw control, pitch torque tilt finally, cone angle control. Then, it proposes a novel technique where passive stationary vanes redirect authors conducted scaled tunnel experiments investigate performance concept. Using 3D-printed deflector between two in-line increased turbine’s more 15%, which compared existing strategies. concludes comparing technology’s effectiveness techniques.
